Lynn Garden Restaurant is steeped in history, both as a Kingsport landmark and award-winning restaurant. Opening in the mid-1940s, Lynn Garden Restaurant is one of the oldest restaurants in Kingsport that has been in near-continuous operation. It still boasts a mid-century diner lunch counter, with classic Tennessee orange seats. And perched atop the restaurant is a classic metal neon sign, original to the building. Decorated throughout with antiques and vintage pictures of other Kingsport landmarks, dining at Lynn Garden Restaurant is a walk through history.
Not only is our restaurant an historic landmark, but you'll find that our menu and owner's background are also filled with rich history. Our menu is full of delicious Southern comfort foods, home-cooked to order for each customer. Owner Mike Kerney is a fourth generation restauranteur. His great-grandparents, Hungarian immigrants, opened their first restaurant in Norton, Virginia, in the 1910s. Mike's grandmother and mother grew up in the restaurant and passed along many of the Southern favorites you'll love at Lynn Garden Restaurant.
Lynn Garden Restaurant is Mike's third restaurant venture. In the 1970s and 1980s, Mike co-owed the 7-12 Market in Gate City, Virginia, with his mother, Anna, and brother, Bill. The family later branched out in the restaurant business, operating the Campus Drive-In and the Gateway restaurant (along with family friend Greg McDavid) in Gate City, Virginia. In 1989, the Gateway closed and Mike and Anna assumed ownership of Lynn Garden Restaurant. Anna worked in the restaurant until she passed away in 2004.
Mike now carries on the family restaurant tradition and continues to serve his award-winning chicken seven days a week. A true family restaurant, you'll often see other family members working (and eating) at the restaurant each week. In addition to a full breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu, the restaurant also offers catering (and delivery) for special events. Call us to discuss your next special event!
